HAPPY HOUR AND DINNER AT THE COUNTRY CLUB

A permanent Probus President’s table has been booked for dinner following drinks. To reserve a place at this table, call the Country Club prior to the day, and ask to be seated at the President’s table. All Probus members are welcome, regardless of their address.
BREAKFAST POINT PROBUS CLUB GOES WHERE NO POLITICIAN DARES!
A good thing about a day at Gosford Races is that the course is not far away by fast coach, so leaving at 10.30 got us there for lunch. This course is far away enough for it still to be there, and although I searched behind bushes and trees, I failed to find any politician carrying a theodolite or tape.
After a great lunch we agreed that someone with equestrian experience should select the trifecta for the group. I’d lived near Randwick Racecourse, and as a child, spent time in the stables gathering manure, to be transported in my billycart and sold to local gardeners. Therefore clearly I should choose the trifecta due to my extensive background with horses, and we would collectively share in the winnings. This proved successful, with shared joy among the group; however, almost all the winnings were subsequently lost on lottery tickets. Ce la vie.
We spent four hours eating, drinking and laying bets. After each race the air was full of mutterings and curses, but when a commotion erupted, it wasn’t hard to find someone with a grin on their face and a pile of money in front of them. Eight races were run at Gosford that Thursday, and although some Super money might not be seen again, we were all winners in other ways. It was a well run and enjoyable day!
